Court Remands Businesswoman For Producing Fake Glucose D

Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded a businesswoman, Gloria Ngozi Odiaka in prison for allegedly packaging and producing G&J Glucose D illegally.

The judge ordered that Mrs. Odiaka be kept in prison after she was arraigned by the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDA) on three count charge of production of fake and adulterated products.

According to the agency, Odiaka, who lived at 10, Visit Fakolujo Close, off Abiola Street, Alapere, Aketi, Lagos State, on March 20, 2018 allegedly packaged G&J Glucose D in a manner that is false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 5 of the Food and Drug Act CAP F 32, LFN 2004 and punishable under section 17 of the same Act.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, a development which made the NAFDAC counsel, Umar Shamaki urged the court for a trial date and that Odiaka be remanded in custody pending her trial.

The defendant’s lawyer while not opposing a trial date, told the court that he has an application for his bail and pleaded with the court that the bail application be taken.

In his response Shamaki told the judge that he has just been served with a copy of the bail application inside the court and that he would need time to study and file his response to the application.

After listening to the lawyers, Justice Hassan adjourned the matter till December 17 for the bail application to be taken and to enable the prosecutor file their counter affidavit.

Justice Hassan also ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody till the next adjourned date.
